Cordele Inland Port

The Cordele Inland Port is a rail-centric terminal that sends and receives containerized freight to and from the Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah, GA. As a critical element of Georgia Ports Authority’s Network Georgia and its broader Rapid Routes initiatives, Cordele Intermodal Services created an inland gateway to the Port of Savannah, the second largest port on the East Coast. The Cordele Inland Port, through Cordele Intermodal Services, offers a 200-mile rail route to the GPA’s Garden City Terminal. This connectivity creates and expands international markets for regional businesses. The port offers an efficient option to an all-truck-dray to the deep-water port of Savannah for the CIS target market of Southwest Georgia, Southern Alabama, and Western Florida.

The Cordele Inland Port is located less than one mile from I-75 and Georgia Highways 300 and 280. CIS offers overnight rail service to the Georgia Ports Authority three times a week via shortline railroads, Heart of Georgia and Georgia Central. In addition to the rail service, CIS owns a private fleet of tractors and chassis that pick up and deliver containerized freight to and from the Cordele rail ramp. Cordele Intermodal Services also offers over-the-road trucking, warehousing, and transloading-a comprehensive solution to any supply chain.

Cordele Intermodal Services has a close working relationship with the Georgia Ports Authority and all the steamship lines that call on the fastest growing port in the USA. CIS can source empty containers from any steamship line for export. Maersk Lines and CMA CGM have designated Cordele Intermodal Services as a Container Yard, allowing CIS to depot their equipment at the Cordele terminal. By having equipment closer to the shipper, versus at the port in Savannah, CIS offers a much more responsive service to shippers. Cordele’s inland location also reduces the number of trucks needed to transport the same amount of containers that a traditional all-truck-dray requires.

Construction has commenced on a double track rail spur that will connect CSX and the Heart of Georgia railroads through the Cordele Inland Port. This connectivity gives existing Cordele businesses the ability to ship greater volumes via rail, and also provides excellent accessibility for manufacturers, distribution centers, or other commodities to be highly competitive on both a domestic and an international stage.

The Crisp County Industrial Development Authority owns the Cordele Inland Port and has land available for development.
